Why is good dental health so important?
Recent studies have shown a clear link between good dental health and good
overall health. In other words, the better your dental health is, the better
your overall health is likely to be.
How can I improve my dental health?
The first step to improving dental health is preventing tooth decay and
periodontal (gum) disease. Regular visits to a dentist are key to maintaining
good dental health and preventing dental disease. In addition,
regular brushing and flossing are essential in keeping your teeth and gums
healthy.
Why should I go to a dentist if I'm not experiencing any dental problems?
Visiting your dentist at least twice each year will ensure you keep a healthy smile. A dentist and dental hygienist will check and clean your teeth as well check for any possible decay. Catching decay and gum disease early prevents potentially larger problems from occurring.
I had a bad experience with a dentist many years ago. I'm hesitant to go back. Have dental procedures changed?
Many people put off going to the dentist because of a painful past dental experience. While some dental procedures may be somewhat uncomfortable, dental procedures have changed over the years creating a more comfortable experience. Also, by visiting your dentist regularly, you're more likely to prevent relatively small dental problems from becoming worse and therefore, requiring more significant dental work.
